My painting “ Kamakshi” was displayed today in the Consulate General’s office in Hong Kong alongside the works of other talented Indian artists in HK. We are truly grateful to our CG, Ms. Satwant Khanalia, for this opportunity. The CGI had also arranged a panel discussion with a few inspiring Indian women that was very insightful! This painting is based on the performance of my daughter, Sharada, in the Bangalore Mahalakshmi temple. I vividly recall that evening, just as she finished her dance, it began to rain as if nature itself was applauding her portrayal of Devi ‘Kamakshi’. The saree she wore was crafted from my mother’s saree, which makes it more emotional to me and my daughter. In this painting, I have attempted to capture the costume, intricacies of jewelry, and also the ‘bhangi’ (pose) and ‘bhava’ (mood) of Devi Kamakshi.
