Kamakshi

This painting is based on the performance of my daughter Sharada in Bangalore Mahalakshmi temple. I vividly recall that evening, just as she finished her dance, it began to rain as if nature itself was applauding her portrayal of Devi ‘Kamakshi’. The saree she wore was crafted from my mother’s saree which makes it more emotional to me and my daughter. In this painting, I have attempted to capture the costume, intricacies of jewelry, and also the ‘bhangi’ (pose) and ‘bhava’ (mood) of Devi Kamakshi.
